Matthew Smith, Ecologist

Matthew Smith joined Ecosphere in 2008 bringing more than seven years of field experience in botanical and ecological studies.   Areas of expertise include vegetation mapping, riparian ecosystems, and local montane and desert habitats.  He has led field crews on extensive vegetation mapping projects in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho.  He possesses more than four years of botanical and biological consulting experience, working both in the private sector and as a federal employee for the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service.   He has successfully completed U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Wetland Delineation Training and Nature Conservancy/NatureServe National Vegetation Classification System Field Data Collection Training.  He holds a M.S. in Biology from the University of Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska and a B.S. in Environmental Biology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
